First State Bank Investment Supports Career Exploration at CHS

The Cassville R-IV School District has received $28,000 from First State Bank of the Ozarks to support workforce development and career readiness opportunities for Cassville High School students.
The contribution was made possible through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines’ Member Impact Fund. Through the program, every $1 invested by First State Bank of the Ozarks was matched with an additional $3, multiplying the bank’s local investment and providing $28,000 to Cassville Schools.
“We couldn't be more grateful for the extremely generous donation by First State Bank to Cassville Schools,” said Mr. Tyler Willis, Cassville High School Principal. “These funds have allowed us to continue serving the students of CHS with career exploration and planning classes, promoting our goal of preparing students for life after high school with workforce knowledge and skills.”
The funding will support Career Exploration classes at CHS, where students have opportunities to learn about career pathways, develop practical workplace skills and begin building a plan for life after graduation.
Throughout the school year, the program plans to welcome guest speakers three to four times each month and provide students with opportunities to visit area businesses, trade schools, colleges and career-focused events. Students will also help prepare for this year's College and Career Fair which will take place this fall on campus at CHS.
In August, the district welcomed Scott Wenger to the teaching staff in a part-time role leading the Career Exploration course. Wenger has been a part of the Cassville Schools community for several years as a coach and brings extensive experience in both education and administration to his new role at Cassville. Prior to joining the Wildcats, he served the Hollister School District for 27 years in various roles, including teaching science, health and physical education. He also held several leadership positions while at Hollister serving as Athletic Director, Alternative School Director and Assistant High School Principal.
The Career Exploration course is designed to help students better understand their interests and strengths, explore realistic career options, develop workplace and financial skills and prepare for employment, college or additional training. Monthly themes include self-awareness, exploration, financial literacy, responsibility, communication, preparation, confidence, opportunity and purpose.
“I am excited for the opportunity to show our kids what eagerly awaits them after graduation and prepare them for the many possibilities they will have in front of them,” said Wenger.
First State Bank of the Ozarks shared that supporting local communities is central to the bank's mission.
“Investing in local schools, first responders, and the communities we serve is more than just part of our mission, it’s part of who we are,” First State Bank stated in a social media post regarding the donation. “Community banking has always been about relationships, and opportunities like this allow us to give back in a meaningful way.”
Through community partnerships, Cassville R-IV is able to provide students with meaningful experiences that connect classroom learning with future opportunities and help prepare them for success beyond high school.
