The Cassville R-IV School District has added an additional layer of safety with the addition of Mr.John Lueckenhoff serving as the district’s School Protection Officer (SPO).

A School Protection Officer is a school district employee who is designated by the superintendent to assist with safety and security responsibilities within the district. The designation is reported to the Missouri Department of Public Safety.

Lueckenhoff is responsible for assisting with safety and security throughout the district, including law enforcement responsibilities. He also works alongside district administrators to address student, parent and visitor situations involving safety and security when needed.

“John’s extensive military and law enforcement background made him an excellent choice to serve as our School Protection Officer,” said Dr. Merlyn Johnson, Cassville R-IV Superintendent. “Just as important, John has lived in the Cassville area for many years and has already built strong relationships with our students and families. His experience, judgment, and exceptional ability to connect with people will serve him well in this role and make him a tremendous asset to the safety and security of our district.” 

He brings both military and law enforcement experience to the position. He served six years in the United States Marine Corps before beginning a 25-and-a-half-year career with the Missouri State Highway Patrol. During his time with the Highway Patrol, he spent nine years as a member of the agency’s SWAT Team.

He currently holds a Missouri Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) license and a commission with the Barry County Sheriff’s Department.

While this is his first year serving the district as the SPO, he is already a familiar face throughout campus. This marks his sixth year with Cassville R-IV after spending the previous five years serving as a full time substitute teacher.

Lueckenhoff  will work collaboratively with district administrators, staff and local law enforcement partners as Cassville R-IV continues its commitment to providing a safe and supportive learning environment for students and staff.
